I sat in my shop and kept looking at a primitive cabinet a consignor brought in. She said it was in a barn on her property. It's case was weathered with the original green paint and had faded mustard colored doors. I couldn't see someone else taking it home, I just knew it had to come home with me.
I had the perfect spot in my kitchen so I decided to buy it. I knew my husband would think I was crazy, we had a new home, why would I want to put this p...Read Full Post »

Well it was a start to a rainy day but it turned out to be one of the nicest days ever. What made it so nice was the great people that came out to support Alzheimer's at L&L Antique Appraisal Show.
So many interesting items came over the threshold. Large rugs, vases, paintings and currency. Some ladies brought in jewelry that their mom gave them which mostly was of sentimental value. We had more fun trying to guess which item was...Read Full Post »

Some questions folks ask me at the shop, if you have a question, please leave a message I will add it and my answer on this page.
Q. How do I get a picture to hang level when it has two of those sawtooth hangers on the back?
A. I use this trick at the shop, tie a ribbon, cord or rope on the back from one sawtooth to the other creating a triangle then find the center and just one hook is needed.Read Full Post »

I once had one of those home parties, this one was a home decor show. The instructor would bring in loads of paintings, accessories, florals, candles etc to use in home decorating. She would set up an easel and give some suggestions how to put a certain look together. It was a fun night for me and my friends and we would buy an item or two. When the evening was over the instructor asked if I would like to join her team. She said my home was lovely and I would be an asset to the...Read Full Post »

Are you ready for a new look this year? Use bold colors or stay more neutral? I love color but when you make that final decision to "go bold" it is something you live with for some time. The nice thing the guess work is done when it comes to paint colors in each room. The paint companies have color charts designed with paint selections that compliment each color. You may not want to replace your treasures with all new. Search out markets to find pieces to add to your collection...Read Full Post »

I have been in my home now for several years now. Each holiday I pull out the same garland and lighted wreath I have used year after year. I thought how can I change my outside Christmas decor. A wreath with a red bow and long ribbon in each window would look beautiful. I counted all the windows and bought wreaths, bows and ribbon. I have double hung windows so it was real easy to open the top portion of the window and using the long ribbon to suspend the wreath I just had to c...Read Full Post »

I can't believe it has been 10 years since the first day I opened the doors to Lavender & Lace Antiques and Gifts. I always loved antiqueing and searching for that special piece that gave my home character. I love the feel of worn wood, a high chair with years of little feet wearing down the wood to a smooth feel. A great find that has a wonderful patina that only comes from years of being weathered.
Finding something unique, ...Read Full Post »

I see people everyday since I own an antique shop, many times we chat as they browse the shop. The common thread we all share is the love of the hunt and many times the items I offer pull at our heart strings. They evoke memories of good times and loved ones past and present. Sometimes a memory of what grandma used to cook or serve in. A funny story of a little brother and his favorite bedtime story book he would love to hear read over and over.
Another thread is when ...Read Full Post »

I offer wonderful table setting pieces in my shop, crystal, china & pottery to name a few. I hear often "oh I have such beautiful china from my mom or grandmother but never use it". Why not use it when friends and family come to your home for a bbq, or club night. What are you saving it for? When do you use your best? My friend Nancy uses all her best china and crystal every day. I thought that was such an elegant way of hosting and made her guests feel so special. Wh...Read Full Post »

Have you noticed watching the rebuild, redecorate, flip a home shows they all start using the same materials in designing a room. Reclaimed wood, shiplap woods, granted some are more created in the execution of the material, instead of putting it horizontal they put it in a herringbone design. But the common denominator is that the materials are all the same, because right now that is the "trend". Remember boring beige, builders convinced us that no color was "what's in" or whe...Read Full Post »
