Time Marches On

Well it is two months since I moved everything out of the shop on Atlantic Avenue. So far no luck finding another shop. I have been looking but just like Goldilocks there hasn't been the "just right" one yet. There was the one I truly loved, location and the look of it was perfect, sadly it could not be a retail space :(. Another was off a very busy road, kind of hidden away too, no one would find me in there! Some were to big some to small. I know the perfect one for Lavender ...

Not Saying Goodbye Just See You Later

Hello to all my dear customers.

Over a decade in business,13 years to be exact, I have decided to close the doors of my shop on Atlantic Avenue.

Lavender & Lace Antiques and Gifts gave me the opportunity to meet great people from practically every state in the Union and Europe too. I have met my business community through the Chamber of Commerce. I have made so many new friends. It has been such fun reminising, ...

What's Inside?

Posted on April 3, 2020 at 6:10 PM Comments comments (0)

There is nothing like something old to give a space a brand new spin and add personality and style. Going through many of my home magazines I came across this sentence, "bring in something old so your space shows your personality". This sentence made me think, every piece of furntiure new and prestine can give a space a sterile atmosphere. New pieces arranged in a room doesn't especially show your particular personality.  Bringing in warm colors, comfy overstuffed sofa cus...

Outdated or Updated?

I love publications that give lots of decorating ideas. I have many magazines, although some issues can be outdated some decor ideas are not. I can still always find something new to add to my decor. Sometimes just the way a color is distributed throughout a room can spark a creative idea. A pop of color that I may not have thought to use can suddenly be appealing during a particular season. Season decorating can be more adventureous since it is not permanent. Farmhouse decor i...

Is anyone home?

Posted on September 23, 2019 at 10:20 AM Comments comments (1)

Some people have no idea how to decorate their home. So they call in a design professional. Some people will copy a room exactly from a magazine or a furniture store display.  The one thing that is so noticible is that their house looked like a store's showroom. Yes, there was expensive rugs and custom drapery but no sign of life. Was there a couple or family that lived there? The answer is you would never have known. It lacked the cozy, comfy feeling you get when a house ...

How can we help our community while shopping?

Posted on July 19, 2019 at 10:00 PM Comments comments (0)

I am sad to say that my friend is now closing the doors to her store. She said the reason her doors are closing is that folks drive by and don't stop to come in. The road in front of her shop is a throughfare of a small main street to a main highway. Folks not taking the time to stop and check out her shop is not uncommon. Unfortunately, it not only affects the owner of a business but also the community. If a new business does not fill the void of the previous business, the com...

I am a Purist are you?

I sat in my shop and kept looking at a primitive cabinet a consignor brought in. She said it was in a barn on her property. It's case was weathered with the original green paint and had faded mustard colored doors. I couldn't see someone else taking it home, I just knew it had to come home with me.

I had the perfect spot in my kitchen so I decided to buy it. I knew my husband would think I was crazy, we had a new home, why would I want to put this p...

The Big Treasure at the Appraisal Show

Posted on October 23, 2018 at 9:15 AM Comments comments (0)

Well it was a start to a rainy day but it turned out to be one of the nicest days ever. What made it so nice was the great people that came out to support Alzheimer's at L&L Antique Appraisal Show.

So many interesting items came over the threshold. Large rugs, vases, paintings and currency. Some ladies brought in jewelry that their mom gave them which mostly was of sentimental value. We had more fun trying to guess which item was...

Q&A

Some questions folks ask me at the shop, if you have a question, please leave a message I will add it and my answer on this page.

Q. How do I get a picture to hang level when it has two of those sawtooth hangers on the back?

A. I use this trick at the shop, tie a ribbon, cord or rope on the back from one sawtooth to the other creating a triangle then find the center and just one hook is needed.

Dressing Up

Posted on January 21, 2018 at 9:15 AM Comments comments (0)

I once had one of those home parties, this one was a home decor show. The instructor would bring in loads of paintings, accessories, florals, candles etc to use in home decorating. She would set up an easel and give some suggestions how to put a certain look together. It was a fun night for me and my friends and we would buy an item or two. When the evening was over the instructor asked if I would like to join her team. She said my home was lovely and I would be an asset to the...
