I see people everyday since I own an antique shop, many times we chat as they browse the shop. The common thread we all share is the love of the hunt and many times the items I offer pull at our heart strings. They evoke memories of good times and loved ones past and present. Sometimes a memory of what grandma used to cook or serve in. A funny story of a little brother and his favorite bedtime story book he would love to hear read over and over.
Another thread is when we talk of where we live now or the place we grew up. Sometimes to our surprise we have a childhood neighborhood that we both share. Other times two customers start to chat and before you know it they went to the same high school or had the same teacher.
Some threads connect the younger generation with seniors each share the love of furniture constructed to last. The young ladies today also like wearing the vintage clothing, not the 1920's wool swimsuits! but do love the 1940's shoes and 1950's style crinoline dresses.
I am happy when I hear I brought a smile to someone who came in to the shop. I get compliments all the time that the shop looks so nice and they feel better after coming in and reminiscing or buying an item that brought back a sweet memory.
