I love publications that give lots of decorating ideas. I have many magazines, although some issues can be outdated some decor ideas are not. I can still always find something new to add to my decor. Sometimes just the way a color is distributed throughout a room can spark a creative idea. A pop of color that I may not have thought to use can suddenly be appealing during a particular season. Season decorating can be more adventureous since it is not permanent. Farmhouse decor is very trendy now, just black and white throughout and shiplap walls is all the rave. Sliding barn doors on a iron rail instead of traditional closet doors. This decor can be fun but I wonder if it is lasting as the open concept everyone is wanting. However, my past dated magazine issues have proven this "trend" seems to be a lasting one. Using something in a way it was not originally intended can make a room more interesting. The unexpected unusual items in a room is always fun. Finding an industrial factory cart and turning it into a kitchen island gives an unexpected surprise in a modern contemporary kitchen. A little whimsey in decorating shows your playful side. Magazines always photograph a room with a homeowner's collection. Some displays are of vintage finds collected over time, others are family heirlooms that have been lovingly stored behind wavy glass in antique cabinets. China plates set on a dining table with silver placesettings and goblets make for an elegant table setting, grouping of china plates on a wall can also give a room elegance. Next time you see a magazine even if it is an outdated issue pick it up it just may give you an updated idea for your decor.
