How can we help our community while shopping?

Posted on July 19, 2019 at 10:00 PM

I am sad to say that my friend is now closing the doors to her store. She said the reason her doors are closing is that folks drive by and don't stop to come in. The road in front of her shop is a throughfare of a small main street to a main highway. Folks not taking the time to stop and check out her shop is not uncommon. Unfortunately, it not only affects the owner of a business but also the community. If a new business does not fill the void of the previous business, the community fails to produce revenue. Many times it can be a domino effect to other businesses in the same area forcing them to close their doors. What can be done to keep those doors open? If you have a shop you like in your local area or tourist town, give that business a hand up and support it. Share your find with friends and family, word of mouth helps immensely. Shops with flowers brimming over the edge of window boxes or a cool architectural building to enhance the landscape is what we all would like to see, rather than a ghost town of hollow out storefronts. So when hubby asks if you have been shopping, your answer is yes helping out the economy in our community :)
